Holiday parks & campsites

Possum Lodge is pleased to sponsor this page. Visit our site

There is a great selection of holiday parks and campsites in Te Anau and Manapouri, servicing campervans and campers and providing good quality cabin accommodation, such as the wonderful Manapouri lakefront Possum Lodge. It's important to support these holiday parks and campsites rather than "freedom camp". Freedom camping in undesignated areas is illegal and doesn't give you access to the great facilities provided at holiday parks and campsites, such as good quality shower rooms.

Alternatively, there are plenty of Department of Conservation campsites in Fiordland National Park, and also at Mavora Lakes, a beautiful area of conservation land accessible from a right turning between Mossburn and Te Anau. Many of these campsites are accessible by vehicle, and other campsites are only accessible by trampers. Go to the Department of Conservation map of campsites in Fiordland. You can also camp at three private locations on the Milford road and in Milford (listed below).

Possum Lodge is a cosy, kiwi holiday park. A traditional camping ground "the way they used to be” filled with a wealth of character, a great atmosphere and a retro feel. Possum Lodge is nestled in the native forest between Lake Manapouri and the mouth of the lower Waiau River, with the native bird's dawn chorus for a wake-up call! This lakeside location offers guests the unique opportunity to wander through the native bush to the shores of the lake or the riverside, it is also just an eight-minute walk through the Beech tree Forest to the Doubtful Sound departure point. The location is ideal for trout fishing, boating, water skiing or swimming in one of New Zealand's most beautiful lakes and is only a two-hour drive from Milford Sound. Guests can also enjoy complimentary WiFi throughout the camp. Visit us at www.possumlodge.co.nz
