Te Anau Community Market

Te Anau has a lovely community indoor market, held in the Te Anau Community Events Centre. It is held generally on the last Saturday of the month, with greater frequency in peak summer months, although it closes in the winter. Our slogan is "gaze, graze and be amazed!" so come on down!
The market is a gastronomic delight. You can buy great organic and local vegetables. You can also buy organic lamb from the fabulous Rough Gully Creek Farm, pickles and jams, and locally-made sushi and cakes.
Arts and crafts are for sale too, such as beautiful children's clothing, hand-knitted jumpers and alpaca yarns.
It's a real community event; anyone can rent a store to sell anything. You may find a few local children selling a few of their old books for a dollar or so, or busking on their musical instruments. You can also take a seat and have tea and home-made savouries, salad and cakes; delicious and at reasonable prices.
It is also really reasonably priced to rent a stall, so if you have something to sell, get in touch with the market organisers.
Once-a-year Steptoe Auction
If you like a market bargain, you really mustn't miss this! Once a year, on the Saturday morning of Labour weekend in October, Te Anau Lions Club hosts its amazing Steptoe Auction. The Community Events Centre is transformed into a junk yard of the most incredible (and often surprisingly large) items that people in the community want to sell, from chairs to bridges! These interesting items are then auctioned to the highest bidder; and sometimes the bidding can be fierce, but often there are real bargains to be had. This strictly-cash event is in aid of community projects. For more information, contact Te Anau Lions Club.
